The airplane is smaller than I envisioned (a little bigger than my hand), but that will probably make it easier to handle for little hands. If the child likes lights and noise, they will enjoy this product. If they are not ready for too much action yet, just leave the batteries out and allow self propelled play. The see through effect is cool to see. The back gears work without batteries - not the other gears though. You must input 3AA batteries. Seems like a sturdy, long-lasting toy.This toy is exactly what it said it would be. The plane is cool to watch and turns around when it runs into something. The only real downfall with this plane is it's SO LOUD! Like, it's insanely loud. It got to the point where I had my husband take it apart and cut the wire for the sound. I couldn't take it anymore. I'm a pre-k teacher so I have a high tolerance for noise but this was too much. Other than that it's a cool toy!My 2 year old is sort of scared of this toy plane when I turn on the music. There is another option to just have it flash lights. But the gears do not turn when you just have the lights option on. And since he's a little startled by the noises it makes I leave it turned off and we play make believe with it.Overall it is well made and would be really cool for older kids!This toy is really awesome to look at, but when the toddler plays with it, I can't really stand it for very long. It's too noisy as there is no volume control, just on and off.The airplane toy is fascinating. It travels on the floor, changing direction when it hits furniture. If you play with it on a table, it changes directions when it gets to the edge. The gears are fun to watch, especially the big one with the pictures.This toy requires batteries. The battery compartment requires a small Phillips-head screwdriver to open. It can be a challenge. To avoid frustration, please install the batteries before you give the airplane to a child.I accidentally dropped the airplane when I was installing the batteries. It was undamaged. I don't recommend dropping it, of course, but it does seem to be pretty sturdy and resistant to damage.Did I mention it is very noisy? Kids who like flashing lights and loud noises will love it.
